A View of St Nicholas' Cathedral & Newcastle Castle
Description
A view taken from the top of Grey's Monument. St Nicholas' Cathedral is the Mother Church for the Diocese of Newcastle. The earliest church on the site was probably constructed in around 1091 (not long after Newcastle Castle was built next door) and it was the church of St Nicholas parish up until 1882 when it was bestowed cathedral status by Queen Victoria.
