Pit Village Garden

A garden in the Pit Village, with a view of the Methodist Church. The museum’s row of pit cottages come from a street in Hetton-le-Hole. This was Francis Street and in their original setting were back to back with with another colliery row in which lived a coal mining ancestor of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge. The Wesleyan Methodist Chapel of 1854 actually came from the real Beamish village (Pit Hill) that lies just outside the museum grounds.
