Description
Drying the socks in front of the open fire, in a pit village home during Beamish Christmas Evening. Old-fashioned Christmas paper decorations adorn the home. The museum’s row of pit cottages come from a street in Hetton-le-Hole. This was Francis Street and in their original setting were back to back with with another colliery row in which lived a coal mining ancestor of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.
